The Fashionista on AIDS and HIV

By Sai

Project Head Shot Clinic by Niccolo Cosme
I'm pretty sure you've heard of AIDS and HIV. I encountered these acronyms during my 4th grade and continued studying these diseases/infections until college. When someone mentions AIDS and HIV we instantly think that it's a contagious disease. It has no cure. It's a gay thing. I hate to break it to you but there's something more than that! There's something you need to know about it and I'm happy to be the one to share the news that will break your AIDS/HIV myths.

In the Philippines 4 TO 5 PEOPLE ARE BEING INFECTED BY HIV EVERY DAY. Now this statistics is freaking me out! Imagine this: If 5 people are being infected by HIV each day, I'm afraid that there'll come a time that all of the people you meet are HIV positives. We don't want this. Actually, we are still fortunate (yes, we still have to look at the brighter side) because our statistics for HIV infections is quite low compared to other countries. However, I don't think we should slack. The fact that we have at least 4 infections each day, I strongly believe that we should take precautionary measures.

Mary Kay is "Thinking of You"

By Sai
My Christmas gift from Mary Kay
Yes! They are! Mary Kay is such a sweet brand! I'm getting more and more attached to their brand since I attended their TimeWise Body Product Launch. It's always nice to know the brand not only through their products but also through their culture and the people behind it. I'm becoming a Mary Kay Girl.
I even got a letter from them and I love the paper! It's so chic and pink!

PLDT launches the PLDT Telpad

By Sai

PLDT TelPad
Last December 13, 2010, I was invited to be part of PLDT's product launching. PLDT launches it's iPad-like product - PLDT Telpad. I wonder what will this do to Filipino entrepreneurs.

I can't stop comparing it Apple's iPad since it somehow functions like that. It has a landline with it so bosses can have it installed in their offices. There's a dock in the landline where you'll put your Telpad to recharge it. I think this product is perfect for entrepreneurs who want to reach out to their market in a digital way. Knowing how digital marketing is important to businesses nowadays, I suggest entrepreneurs to get one for their businesses.

More applications will  be added to Telpad in the future since PLDT is continuously innovating great products both for personal and business use.

Kimberly-Clark Health Care on Healthcare-Associated Infections

By Sai

I'm pretty sure you're aware of some Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs). I've watched some documentaries about this locally and internationally and knowing the "I freak out easily" part of me, I (somehow) am afraid to go to healthcare clinics. I think it's natural for me to feel that way since I only have one life to live and I don't want any healthcare facilities to screw it up. In the Philippines, we have The Medical City and St. Luke's Medical Center to assist us with our healthcare needs. Just last week my grandfather was confined at St. Luke's Medical Center and we're happy with their service. If not for them, my Lolo (grandfather) might have suffered to something more serious.

Not On My Watch Campaign by Kimberly-Clard Health Care
I don't know that the setting in the United States is but I'm very happy that Kimberly-Clark emailed me about their initiative to put an end to HAI problems. They recently launched their "Not on My Watch" Campaign. It's their initiative to help other healthcare facilities (including clinics, and maybe hospitals too) to spread awareness about the importance of HAI prevention. I think it's a great idea to influence other organizations to implement preventive measures about HAI because at the end of the day it's all for us - their patients.

Girl bonding with Mrs. The Fashionista

By Sai

Introducing Mrs. The Fashionista ;) Of course, who else would that be but my mom. We had our mother-daughter bonding last month at the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center. Since I’m a makeup artist, I colored my mom’s face. This is she before the makeup:
I straightened her hair in this photo.
And this is she after I colored her face with my crayons for the big girls (this is how I like to call my makeup paraphernalia):

Have you swapped to OLAY?

By Sai

Did you know that The Fashionista is the “mother” of Olay Philippines? Yes, I am! I am the woman behind the Olay Woman *winks* I’m so proud of my baby (Olay Philippines) for creating a large community of woman who defies age and stayed pretty and young as they were in their early 20s. Believe me! I saw some of these Olay Woman and they really amazed me! They’re so pretty! I hope I’ll be like them when I’m in my 40s. Well, I don’t have to worry – I got Olay by my side.

I lost track of time and I can’t remember when this happened. Olay Philippines had a series of Swapping Events. I was at the first Swapping event and I experienced how people decided to swap from their old moisturizing soap to Olay Bar that not only moisturizes your skin but also helps fight the early signs of aging.

My first “Run Against Time”

By Sai

I am a frustrated runner (I know, I know!). That’s the only sports I can do right now. If you’re part of my childhood you have to be well aware that I am a fast runner. I run like a boy (yeah, seriously). I remember by PEP test (I forgot if that’s how my P.E. teacher really calls it but nah! Never mind that!) results and surprisingly my physical tests (then) always fall in the “guy’s” standards. I hope you don’t get an animated version of me at the back of your mind where I am the girl with lots of muscles! Hahahaha believe me, I don’t want that! Well, I just want to run and run and run a little bit more. I am very active in my PE classes to the point that I almost dreamt of becoming a PE teacher :P (LOL, my stupid dreams when I was younger hahaha)

Well, that’s not how I perform now (well, not anymore). I am 23 (yes, that’s my true age) and I feel so different. Most of us experience the “Why am I tired? I just started running for like 5 minutes ago” feeling as we age. If someone mentioned “aging” we always think of wrinkles, people in their early 40s and 50s and people who have gray hair. Well, we are all aging and it’s inevitable. I am aging (sad but true) and as early as 23, I want to prevent its early signs.

Folded n Hung Fashion Show at the Philippine Fashion Week

By Sai

Another post caused by my online stalking skills. Today we'll talk about Folded n Hung's latest style.

Folded n Hung (for me) is equivalent to "street" and "unique." Their designs are very unique. Though most of their latest collections are very tiny (clothes with less fabric), I still find it hip. The fashion show's presentation is hippie. The whole collection is oozing with loudness especially the colors of the fabrics used. When I see a Folded n Hung collection I see Tokyo (weird but I'm just being honest). It's speaking for the active youth and it doesn't care if the "it" thing is very girly and high fashion as those in the famous TV show Gossip Girl. Their designs are freestyle in my eyes.

Great job to the designers of Folded n Hung for this season's collection. Check out the photos from the fashion show. (Photo courtesy of the official fan page of Folded n Hung)

Freeway Fashion Show

By Sai

Who told you that you need to be invited in an event to cover something? Hahaha all it takes is a lot of stalking skills! LOL. At the start of the so-called "Ber Months" there were a lot of fashion shows going on left and right. As a fashion blogger, I need to be updated about the latest styles of different brands for my fabulous readers. Unfortunately, due to my work schedule (my real job) I can't attend every event but that will not stop me to bring you that latest in the fashion scene.

Today is a Freeway day! Freeway's designs are very chic! It's very empowering and it brings out the inner power of every woman. It's very stylish and I must say some of their designs are mod-inspired (at least that's how it appears to me). Check out the photos below and start choosing what to buy this Yuletide Season as one of your party clothes ;)

Tips: How to achieve the perfect eye brow

By Sai

It has been said that our brows define our eyes. That's the reason why you should not forget to make those brows pop when doing your makeup. Some of us tends to forget to take care of their brows. I've been there hahahaha. When I was still in the "boyish" phase of my life, I didn't care if my brows are perfect. I don't even know how to pluck it.

Now that I'm a lady (ehem) I learned how to shape it properly. There are different brow shapes that you can do and find that perfect shape that defines your eyes the best. When I'm doing a makeup service for someone, I'm a little scared with brows. If I overdo it, my client will look like a monster (oh no! I don't want that to happen. They will kill me! hahaha). Over the years, you'll be an expert in this matter but when you're a beginner in doing your own makeup, brow stencils are to the recue!

It will help me save some moolah next year. It will be my cute version of a piggy bank hahaha. Can anyone buy me this? hahaha

Who told you that only big boys have their toys? Big girls have theirs too!

How to do a French tip nail

By Sai

French Tip Nails
This is my first time to do a nail tutorial and I hope you'll find it useful. I always have a heart for French tip nails. In a movie I watched before (Red Shoes), it was mentioned that it was Imelda Marcos who popularized French tip nails in the Philippines. Honestly, I really don't care. All I care about is to have great nails for myself and for Toots (I call my special someone "Toots" to hide his true personality.) He's a man who likes his "girlfriend" (if that's what I am right now) to have great nails. I actually agree. It's a major turn off if a lady looks so fine but has dirty nails! Eeeeewwww!

What does 50X fairer skin means to me?

By Sai

Let’s try a new topic here. Let’s talk about having fairer skin. I’ve been a “morena” ever since and sometimes I wish I’m fairer. Here are the reasons why.

Obviously, I want to be whiter.
This is me and I found a fairer version of me online. This is not edited. This is the real whoever she is and it kinda surprised me when a friend of mine showed me this. Yes! That’s exactly me but way whiter!

Live blogging for the Visayas Blogging Summit 2010

By Sai

Yes oh yes! This is my first time to conquer my "I'm afraid of airplanes" drama! Gee, I'm so excited to literally fly! I did not sleep because I'm afraid I'd be too happy sleeping while my airplane is flying to Iloilo hahaha.

So, my day started with a funny talk with my daddy :P He accompanied me to the airport. I actually asked him to because I'm so naive! I don't know anything! This is my first time to leave Manila hahaha (I know this sounds pathetic but what can I do? It's the truth hahaha) Sorry for my look. No makeup. No sleep. I'm like a zombie! Hahaha

I missed an interesting event

By Sai

Due to tons of work in my real job as a Digital Influence Specialist I haven't checked my email inbox for quite some time. When I checked my email inbox an invitation was sent to me few days ago and I'm kinda sad to have missed it!
Boy oh boy! I'm interested in this book launch. I mean, hey, I've been very honest to all of you with my relationship status. I've been single for quite a while and this book looks interesting. I'd buy this book and I'll tell you what's it's all about plus how to flirt with guys hahaha :)) Or buy the book too! This should be fun!

Happy reading everyone!

How to keep your curls beautiful and bouncy

By Sai

I've been getting a lot of compliments since I curled my straight hair. I first curled my hair and after two weeks I have it dyed. My friends loved the curls and they love my new hair color more. Even my officemates are asking who dyed and curled my hair. Well, it was Rocky who's taking care of my hair. He's a family friend, who owns a salon in Pasig City.

Rocky's applying some chemicals in my hair and I'm really freaking out because I don't want my hair to be damaged. I always believe that my hair is my crowning glory. I think this is in our unpublished handbook made by our great great grandmothers. I actually use two products for my hair - Sunsilk's Hair Repair (the orange one) and Cream Silk's Volume Up (the light blue one).

Michelle Phan's latest makeup tutorial

By Sai

Are a Michelle Phan follower and fan like me? Oh gosh! You have to check this out! I found this through a friend on Facebook. I don't think this video is in her YouTube channel. I decided to share this so that you'll be updated with her latest beauty tutorials. You'll learn what lipstick tone is best for you in this tutorial. Have fun Fashionistas!

By Sai

Gee, thanks to Flow of www.flowellgalindez.com for inviting me in this event! I really had fun. It was a night out with my fellow bloggers (Alex Dizon, Iris and Montsch Acosta, EJ and Ginger Arboleda, Cathy Copaway and Abe Alhambra, Jr., Jeman Villanueva and Azrael Coladilla).

TameraOnline offers a real makeup shopping experience online

By Sai

I recently found out about TameraOnline.com. They started last 2009 as the only website the offers a real makeup shopping experience through online shopping/buying. They are selling different globally-known products like Lancome and Mary Kay.

As I was browsing their site, I stumbled upon this product:

Faith’s Wedding Day last 10-10-10

By Sai

This is my first time to do a wedding makeup. Honestly, I was very nervous at first. Good thing we had a trial makeup for the bride. I was so glad that the wedding coordinator liked my natural makeup on Faith. I did a lot of research on this just to make sure (this is part of the “I’m so nervous part”). I found out that you really have to make the bride’s makeup as natural as possible. I decided to use earthy tones on Faith. She already has a pretty face so what I did was I just enhanced her natural beauty. She has an oval face so I had to contour her face to make her cheekbones visible. This was the result of our trial makeup.

Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao fights for the Philippines again versus Antonio Margarito

By Sai

Pacman is everyone’s hero. Every time he has a fight we hear that there’s a zero crime rate in Metro Manila in the news. Funny but it only shows how much Filipinos love him and support him especially during his fights. He is everyone’s hero.

Pacman’s latest fight will be with Antonio Margarito and we are all excited. I hope Pacquiao will still bring home the bacon! Go Pacman! I have one problem though, how will I watch it? My TV at home is not working :(

Sony VAIO at the 14th Philippine Fashion Week

I was one of the lucky ones to witness how Sony rocked the house at the 14th Philippine Fashion Week. There were upcoming designers who participated in their event including Russell Villafuerte, one of the finalist in Project Runway Philippines. The show featured these VAIO laptops and netbooks:

Fashion disaster by Blake Lively

By Sai

I'm a big fan of Blake Lively especially in her character as Serena Van Der Woodsen in the TV show Gossip Girl. She's so sexy, stylish and very feminine and womanly. She's one of the celebrities I look up to in terms of dressing up. But look what I found:

oXygen masters Minimalism at the Philippine Fashion Week

By Sai

Day 1 of my Philippine Fashion Week coverage is Oxygen! This is a brand close to my heart since I worked for their mother company in the past. Oxygen is for the yuppies - young, fresh, hip and fashion-forward people. I love Oxygen's minimalistic designs this season. It's not a runway look but your potential everyday look too. Oxygen featured baggy clothes with a twist. Most of their designs are monochromatic, plain black or white, but with a very sophisticated overall look achieved through the flowing layers of their designs. I'll definitely purchase a pair of pants from Oxygen soon! I also got a very nice bag from Oxygen ;)

Rusty Lopez puts its best foot forward at the 14th Philippine Fashion Week

By Sai
Rusty Lopez: Women of Strength

I got the chance to cover this event by accident and I'm happy I was there to witness one of the fashion shows at the 14th Philippine Fashion Week. Rusty Lopez shoes have this image at the back of my head as "very stiff." Their designs are very corporate. Since yuppies are invading the corporate scene, I'm happy that Rusty Lopez finally made their designs very fashionable and wearable not only at the office but at parties too! The Rusty Lopez Holiday-Summer Shoe Collections are composed mostly of gladiator and boot-styled shoes (for women) and pointy-corporate shoes (for men). I like the new flavor they brought in their designs plus their presentation at the PFW rocks! It's very relaxed yet sophisticated! Kudos to Rusty Lopez! I think this new excitement for the upcoming Rusty Lopez shoes came from Nicole Lopez, Lolito and Lily Lopez' daughter. Check out their press release below:

Online selling and buying at AyosDito.ph

By Sai

I've been an online seller since 2007 and an online buyer since 2000. Before, Multiply was my only avenue for online selling and buying. I also use Buyandsellph and AyosDito.ph. Lately, I've been using AyosDito.ph more since I find the user interface very friendly ;)

As a seller, AyosDito.ph always prompt me to change the words I'm using. I'm actually hoping to get some assistance about this because I'm really into online selling ;) For now, I visit their site as a buyer only.

Do-it-Yourself Hair Style in just 5 minutes or less

By Sai

Ashton's Baptismal Event
Last September I was invited to Ashton's baptism day by her beautiful mom, Lace Llanora of Style and Relax. I'm just so glad that above all the bloggers that she knows, she chose me to the host. I have no experience in hosting parties (except parties I organize for my cousins when I was in grade school). Just the thought of talking to a crowd scares me. I don't have the "humor" and the job is just not for me. Thanks to Lace I conquered another fear! I actually hosted the event and I think I did pretty good (Oh c'mon! This is my first time so please please spare me hahaha)

The feeling of being part of someone else's big event is priceless! You can read everything about the event here.

I look like this at the event:

I actually love my hair style here. How to achieve it?

Handing Down the Secret of Truly Hiding Your Age with Mary Kay's TimeWise Body

By Sai

TimeWise Body by Mary Kay
Not all people know this but did you know that your age shows up not only on your face but also on your hands? Yes, that's why we (especially ladies) should take good care of our precious hands. I've been aware of this since I watched a TV show (I forgot what TV show exactly) that talks about taking good care of your hands. Well, aside from the fact that your boyfriend would be so fond of kissing and touching your hand, there's no treatment to make your hands look younger (at least none today).

I have been taking good care of my hands since I felt like I'm turning into a fine lady (naks!). I use lotions with SPF and with anti-aging ingredients. Last September, I was one of the bloggers who first experienced the anti-aging effect of Mary Kay's newest product - TimeWise Body.

I really had a great time! I tried the arm and back massage by The Spa. They used the TimeWise Body product and it's really relaxing!
A relaxing back massage :)

Showing Real Love in our fight against Cancer

By Sai

Cancer is a very painful disease. I remember my Lola Mamay's suffering when she had Cirrhosis. Our whole family stood by her side. We can't show an ounce of sadness and pain in front of her because we're all trying to be strong for her. She died last August 2, 2010. I was on my way home when my Mama Nang texted me, "Wala na si Lola" (Lola's gone) and I cried. I know how painful it is to lose someone who's really dear to you.

We are actually fortunate these days that various cancer awareness campaigns are everywhere. We get to know how to prevent Cancer and some information about the disease. I was lucky to attend a seminar before about fighting Cancer. I actually felt so bad when I saw kids with Cancer. Their innocent smiles carry hope and inspiration for all of us.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TOO!

Ms. Janette Toral of InfluentialBlogger.net asked me if I can help her spread Real Love's Campaign. Of course, I said yes. This is the least that I can do to help and we need your help too!

Kythe Foundation was founded by Maria Fatima Garcia-Lorenzo and Icar Castro, both psychology graduates from Ateneo. It is a non-stock, non-profit organization that provides psychological support to pediatric cancer patients. It spearheaded the Child Life Program, which aims to uplift and give hope to kids with cancer and their families through education and developmental activities enable them to be more knowledgeable of their illness and experience different hands on activities.

Taste and Savor Life’s Feasts at The Lerato

Posted by Sai

Living at the metro is very complicated. You have to consider the price, the amenities, accessibilities to business establishments and sometimes you also have to consider how far or how near it is to your working place. Everything is about being practical. There are many exhibits about real estate in malls that offer an ideal place to live in. Lately, I’ve been thinking of looking for a condo for me and daddy. If you’re also considering condominium living, The Lerato maybe a good choice.

The Lerato condominium
It is one thing to indulge in a dining experience that presents cuisines from different cultures, and another to have different cuisines available at your doorstep.
Yet this is the kind of culinary indulgence that The Lerato, Alveo Land’s latest residential project is set to offer, in line with its promise of cosmopolitan living at the heart of MCBD North.

Apple's newest iPhone- iPhone 4

By Sai

iPhone 4
Okay! I want an iPhone too! I was talking about this last time I talked to Carla. I still need to find a way to save some moolah for this one though. I am receiving a lot of Apple updates in my inbox lately and I just want to share it to you – iPhone 4 is in the Philippines!

iPhone 4 has a “Facetime” feature for video calling. iPhone 4 has two cameras - front and back camera. To use this feature you just need to look for a contact (the one you want to video call) and tap the FaceTime button - as easy as ABC!

Buy Proactiv Solution and win an iPad!

By Sai

I’ve been seeing the ProActiv commercial since I was a teenager. There was a time when I also had some pimple problems every month (because of the monthly period thing). It’s not that bad but having your crush see that single pimple in your face is a no no! I tried using ProActiv Solution and I can’t believe how powerful it is.

Seeing Jessica Simpson endorse the product is a major thing! Hollywood celebrities are using it like Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne and Mandy Moore. No wonder they have that beautiful skin even without any makeup on.

Wrangler Fall/Winter 2010 Campaign: Wild at Heart

Posted by Sai

An iconic denim brand – Wrangler embraced a rich heritage and has always endorsed freedom and the spirit of being yourself. This season Wrangler captures the spirit of personalization, DIY mentality and spirit of independence in the new advertising campaign.

The campaign shoot took place at an urban car yard and the gas station, which set a perfect stage to showcase the brand’s genuine identity – Wild at Heart. Wrangler couple are searching for parts for their old Chevy everywhere and after that, they bring along the parts they needed and working intensely in their workshop trying to fix the vehicle on their own.

Wrangler Fall/Winter 2010 Campaign: Wild at Heart
The inspiration for the Wrangler FW2010 collection is Kustom Kulture, an American subculture from the 50s and 70s. A movement that describes the look and style of those who drove and built custom cars and motorcycles in America, the typical hair styles, turn up jeans and their customized vehicles.
